Who I Am
I'm Daniel Vagg — Senior Applied AI Engineer at Zapier, where I build AI systems that automate real work for real people.
My background: Physics, Masters in Space Science - worked with ESA on satellite data analysis platforms for Gaia. ML platforms for drone and satellite imagery, autonomous gliders to the stratosphere. The common thread is using technology to do something that matters.
I know what AI can actually do. More usefully, I know what it can't — and what it costs to find out the hard way.
The Gap I'm Trying to Close
The organisations most likely to benefit from AI are often the last to get it. Charities, community health projects, civic tech groups, research collectives — they're resource-constrained, mission-driven, and largely ignored by the consulting industry.
I can help. And I want to.
What This Looks Like
Free, hands-on AI consulting for social good organisations.
Not a deck/workshop. I'll work with you directly on a real problem until something useful exists.
That might mean:
- Automating the admin that burns your team's time and focus
- Building something that doesn't exist yet — a custom workflow, an AI assistant grounded in your context, an integration between tools that were never meant to talk
- Honest answers to the question "what should we actually do with AI?" — without a vendor attached
- Working code you can use, not a slide about what code might look like
Who Should Reach Out
I'm not overly rigid about definitions. If your work clearly benefits people, communities, or the planet — it probably fits. A few examples:
- Charities, NGOs, non-profits
- Environmental and climate initiatives
- Community healthcare or mental health services
- Education access and inclusion projects
- Open-source tools with a humanitarian focus
- Civic technology and public services

- The mission is real — not a side note on a commercial product
- You'll engage seriously — I'll put in real time; I need you to as well
- You'll share what works — if we build something useful, let's make sure others can find it
